You’ve Been Told Your Vision Is Bad, Now What?

Vision Of Eyechart

If you’ve just been told that you’ve got sight problems, you’re probably wondering what the next steps are. While it can be frightening to be told that there’s a problem with your eyes, eye issues are incredibly common. In fact, at some point or another, 80 percent of the population will suffer issues with their vision. So try not to stress, instead, focus on how you want to treat your sight issues.

Most of the time when your optician spots a problem, they’ll give you a range of options for how to deal with it. Sometimes they’ll recommend wearing glasses or contact lenses. Or they may suggest leaving it to see what happens. While other times your optician may recommend laser eye surgery. What your optician recommends will depend on what the problem is and what the best treatment methods are. If you’re given a choice of treatments, it can be a little confusing knowing what to opt for. Luckily for you, you’ve got us on hand to help you make a decision.

Are glasses the right option?

If your vision problem can be corrected, then you may be told that you need to wear glasses, as, unlike lenses they can correct problems. (As can laser eye surgery, but onto that in a minute.) A lot of people are put off the idea of wearing glasses because they worry that it will affect how they look. The truth is, if you select the right frames, you’ll have nothing to worry about. If money is an issue, glasses tend to be the cheapest option, as they last for years. Plus, when it comes to dust and dirt, glasses offer a good amount of protection. (These are the things that cause eye infections, so keeping them out of your eyes is essential.) The downside to glasses is that they can cause pain for your nose and ears, leading to blisters. But in terms of cons, that’s about it.

Should I go for laser treatment?

A relatively new treatment for eye problems, laser surgery, can be an excellent way to correct your vision. Of course, the fact that it comes with surgery means that there is a level of risk. However, there’s no need to let that put you off, as almost all eye infections can be treated. Plus, if you opt to have your treatment performed at a high-quality clinic, your chances of infection are minimal. A big upside to laser treatment is that after surgery, your vision should be perfect and won’t start to deteriorate for at least ten years. So although the treatment may be pricey, in the long run, you’ll save yourself money. To find out more about laser eye surgery, check out the Belcara Health Lasik Eye Surgery page and have a browse.

Maybe contact lenses are best for me?

If you don’t want to wear glasses but can’t afford or don’t want to undergo laser eye surgery, contact lenses could be the best option. The one factor that puts people of lenses is the fact that you have to be comfortable touching your eyeball. However, if you can get past that, then contact lenses could be perfect for you. The downside to wearing lenses is that they can be quite expensive, depending on which ones you opt for. The best way to make wearing contacts affordable is opting for two weekly lenses instead of dailies, as these are much more affordable. Plus, if you plan on wearing your lenses all day, every day, two-weekly lenses are better for your eyes, as they allow them to get more oxygen.

Thanks to advancements in optometry, vision problems can be easily dealt with. It’s just a case of knowing what the best method of treatment is for you. Don’t rush your decision, take your time and think things through.
